The culture library

Living mycelium of the species worth growing at home, isolated and expanded on agar before it is bottled. First up: Blue oyster, Pink oyster, Lions mane, Reishi and Shiitake. Each culture is selected for vigorous, reliable growth on the grain and substrates we sell, so the whole range works together. Because they are grown here, there is no biosecurity paperwork and no week in a hot parcel van.

Formats when it opens: 10ml LC syringe and Colonised agar plate. Leave your email above to hear the day it lands.

Liquid culture or plate?

A liquid culture syringe is the easy one: shake, flame the needle, inject 2 to 5 ml through the port of a sterilised grain bag or an all-in-one. A colonised agar plate is for growers who keep a library: transfer wedges to fresh plates, or drop a wedge straight into grain in a still air box.

Start with the forgiving ones

Blue and pink oysters colonise fast and fruit on coir-based substrate. Lion's mane is gentle on hardwood and worth the wait. Shiitake and reishi are slower hardwood projects for a second or third grow. The species guides have the conditions for each.

Questions

About this product

What is a liquid culture syringe?

Live mycelium in a sterile nutrient solution. Inject it through the port of a sterilised grain bag and the mycelium colonises the grain into spawn.

How much do I use per bag?

2 to 5 ml per 1kg bag, spread across a couple of injection points if possible.

How long does a culture keep?

Months in the fridge for a healthy liquid culture; plates keep for weeks to months sealed and refrigerated. Use them while they are vigorous.

Are these gourmet species?

Yes. Gourmet (oysters, lion's mane, shiitake) and medicinal (reishi and friends). Everything here is for growing edible and medicinal mushrooms.
