One bag, one injection, one harvest

The all-in-one puts a layer of sterilised, nutrient-enhanced grain under a bed of our CVA substrate, in a single filter-patch bag with a self-healing injection port. You inject a culture into the grain, let it colonise, mix it through the substrate by kneading the sealed bag, and fruit from the same bag once it is white. No clean mixing step, no tub, no second bag. It is the easiest grow on the shelf and the one we point beginners to.

Sizes and prices: 1kg for $40 and 2kg for $60. Grain: Wheat, Corn and Oats. Prices in AUD, GST inclusive where it applies, shipped tracked Australia-wide.

Instructions

  1. Inoculate

Wipe the port with 70% alcohol, flame the needle and inject 2 to 5 ml of liquid culture into the grain layer at the bottom. Keep the bag upright so the culture sits in the grain.

  2. Colonise the grain

20 to 26°C, dark, filter patch uncovered. In one to three weeks the grain goes white. Break it up gently through the bag when it is mostly colonised.

  3. Mix

Knead the colonised grain through the substrate layer until it is evenly spread, flatten the bag into a brick and put it back in the dark.

  4. Fruit

When the whole bag is white (another one to three weeks), cut the bag open or cut a window, mist, give it fresh air and indirect light. Pins arrive in days; harvest about a week later. The full guide has pictures of each stage in words.

Which grain for an all-in-one?

We offer wheat, corn and oats. Oats break up most easily inside a sealed bag, which makes the mixing step simple; wheat is the dependable all-rounder; corn carries big reserves for a slower species.

Questions

About this product

Does the all-in-one come with a culture?

No. The bag is sterile and you add a liquid culture of the gourmet or medicinal species you want through the injection port.

How long does an all-in-one take?

About 4 to 8 weeks from injection to first harvest with oyster mushrooms, longer for slower species.

Do I open the bag to mix?

No. Mix by kneading the sealed bag so the colonised grain spreads through the substrate. Opening it is the one thing that lets contaminants in.

How many flushes?

Two is usual, three is possible. Rest and rehydrate the block between flushes.

Can I fruit it in a tub?

Yes. After it is fully colonised you can tip the block into a tub for a flat fruiting surface, but fruiting from the bag works fine and keeps it simpler.
