The range
Build your grow
Tell us how much substrate you are filling and the spawn ratio you like. We will work out the grain, pick the cheapest mix of bag sizes, and bag the lot in one click.
Bag mix is the cheapest combination of our bag sizes that covers what you need.
Grain guide
Four grains, one standard. Here is how they compare, in grower terms.
How it fits together
Introduce your culture to a bag of sterilised grain through the injection port.
Sterilised grainLet the mycelium run through every kernel until the bag turns white.
Agar for clean startsBreak up the colonised grain and mix it through your substrate.
Premium CVA substrateGive it fresh air, humidity and light, then harvest your flush.

The kingdom standard
Grain and substrate both arrive sterilised and sealed, ready to use.
Our CVA recipe has been refined over years of growing for consistent results.
Prepared with proven methods and carefully selected nutrients for a strong start.
Grain bags carry an injection port. Substrate bags breathe through a filter patch.

Grain is what you inoculate first. Once the mycelium has colonised it, that grain becomes spawn, and you mix it through the substrate: the bulk material your mushrooms fruit from.
Wheat is the all-rounder. Oats and milo break apart easily, and milo gives you the most inoculation points per kilo. Corn has the biggest kernels. The grain guide compares all four.
It depends on your spawn ratio. At 1:2 you use one part grain to two parts substrate, so 5kg of substrate takes 2.5kg of grain. The grow builder does the maths and picks the bag sizes.
Sterilised grain and substrate layered in one bag with an injection port. You inoculate the grain, let it colonise, then mix it through the substrate without opening the bag. They are coming soon.
Keep them sealed, somewhere cool, clean and out of direct sunlight, and use them soon after they arrive.

Grain and substrate layered in one sterilised bag. Coming soon.
Sterilised grain and substrate layered in one bag. Inoculate, colonise, mix, fruit.
An all-in-one grow bag layers sterilised, nutrient-enhanced grain under a bed of sterilised substrate, in one filter-patch bag with a self-healing injection port. You inoculate the grain layer through the port, wait for it to colonise, then knead the colonised grain through the substrate without ever opening the bag. When the whole bag is white you cut it open and fruit from it. It is the simplest route from a culture syringe to a harvest, and the one we recommend to first-time growers.

Wipe the port with 70% alcohol, flame the needle and inject 2 to 5 ml of liquid culture into the grain layer at the bottom of the bag.
Keep the bag at 20 to 26°C in the dark. When the grain is mostly white (one to three weeks depending on species), gently break it up through the bag.
Massage the colonised grain through the substrate layer, flatten the bag and let it run again. The substrate goes white over the next one to three weeks.
Cut the bag open or cut a window, add humidity and fresh air, and harvest when the caps say so. Full instructions in the all-in-one guide.
Oats, wheat and corn are all good in an all-in-one. Oats break up with the least effort, which makes the mixing step easier through a sealed bag. Choose the 1kg bag for a first grow or a windowsill; the 2kg bag for a bigger flush and a second one after it.
Questions
A single sterilised bag containing a layer of grain and a layer of substrate, with a filter patch and an injection port. You inoculate the grain, let it colonise, mix it through the substrate inside the bag and fruit from the same bag.
Yes. The bag is sterile and contains no mycelium; you add a liquid culture of the species you want to grow through the injection port. Our gourmet and medicinal cultures are coming soon, and any clean gourmet liquid culture works.
Roughly 4 to 8 weeks for oyster mushrooms: one to two weeks for the grain, one to three weeks for the substrate after mixing, then a week or so from pins to harvest. Slower species take longer.
Usually two, sometimes three. After the first harvest, let the block rest, rehydrate it with a soak if it feels light, and return it to fruiting conditions.
It is easier and needs no clean mixing step. Buying grain and substrate separately gives you more control over the ratio and lets you grow more from one spawn bag, which is better value at scale.
