Questions
Good to know.

What is the difference between grain and substrate?
Grain is what you inoculate first. Once the mycelium has colonised it, that grain becomes spawn, and you mix it through the substrate: the bulk material your mushrooms fruit from.
Which grain should I choose?
Wheat is the all-rounder. Oats and milo break apart easily, and milo gives you the most inoculation points per kilo. Corn has the biggest kernels. The grain guide compares all four.
How much grain do I need for my substrate?
It depends on your spawn ratio. At 1:2 you use one part grain to two parts substrate, so 5kg of substrate takes 2.5kg of grain. The grow builder does the maths and picks the bag sizes.
What is an all-in-one grow bag?
Sterilised grain and substrate layered in one bag with an injection port. You inoculate the grain, let it colonise, then mix it through the substrate without opening the bag. They are coming soon.
How should I store my bags?
Keep them sealed, somewhere cool, clean and out of direct sunlight, and use them soon after they arrive.
When do cultures, agar and grow kits land?
They are being prepared now. Join the drop list and you will hear first.

Delivery
Australia-wide, tracked.
Every order ships tracked to any address in Australia. Prices go by weight, so the checkout shows the exact cost before you pay.
Delivery options and prices
| Option | First kg | Each extra kg | Free over | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard shipping | $15 (covers 1kg) | $5 | n/a | Tracked, Australia-wide |
| Express shipping | $20 (covers 1kg) | $5 | n/a | Tracked, Australia-wide |
Worked example: a 2kg grain bag and a 2kg substrate bag (4kg) on standard shipping costs $30 to ship anywhere in Australia.
We ship within Australia only at the moment. Live cultures and colonised spawn cannot cross borders without permits, and our bags are made for Australian growers.
How quickly does it leave?
Orders are packed and handed to the carrier within a few business days. Grain, substrate and all-in-one bags are sterilised and sealed, so they travel well; colonised spawn and cultures are packed to stay cool and sent early in the week so they are not sitting in a depot over a weekend.
When it arrives
- Bring parcels inside as soon as you can. A sealed bag on a hot verandah for an afternoon is fine; colonised spawn is not.
- Store sealed grain and substrate bags cool and out of sunlight and use them within a few weeks. Storage guide.
- Colonised spawn and cultures go straight into use or the fridge.
- Anything damaged or leaking: email a photo and your order number within a couple of days and we will sort it out.
