Skip the three-week wait
Colonised grain spawn is our sterilised grain, inoculated with a vigorous culture and run right through until every kernel is white. Pick reishi, pink oyster, blue oyster, lions mane, king oyster and shiitake. Open it in a clean space, break it up, mix it through a substrate and you are straight into the bulk phase. It is the fastest route to a first flush and the surest, because the part of a grow where most beginners pick up a contaminant has already been done in our lab.
Sizes and prices: 1kg for $60 and 2kg for $110. Culture: Reishi, Pink Oyster, Blue Oyster, Lions Mane, King Oyster and Shiitake. Prices in AUD, GST inclusive where it applies, shipped tracked Australia-wide.
How to use it
- Match the substrate
Oysters: our CVA or CVWA coir blends, or hardwood. Lion's mane, shiitake, king oyster, reishi: the wood lovers substrate.
- Spawn
Break the bag up from the outside first. In a still air box or in front of a flow hood, open both bags and mix the spawn through evenly: 1:2 to 1:4 for coir tubs, 1:4 to 1:5 for hardwood blocks.
- Colonise, then fruit
Dark, room temperature, until the substrate is white; then humidity, fresh air and light. The species guides have the numbers.
Make it go further
A handful of colonised grain dropped into a fresh sterilised grain bag turns one bag of spawn into five or more. Grain-to-grain transfers need clean technique, but they are the cheapest way to run a whole season from one purchase. The colonised spawn guide shows how.
